Enjoy the Light in Oldsmar, FL, with Roof Skylights
Skylights come in two distinct styles.
- The best skylights are called “”self-flashing.” These skylights come with their own flashings attached. Having the flashing as part of the skylight is better since the corners are all factory-sealed and soldered, and the skylight to flashing connection is factory-sealed airtight.
- The other type of skylights are called “curb mount.” These skylights must be mounted on an existing curb and the contractor must flash the curb on site. The downside of these types of skylights is that they are not always airtight and can allow inside air to escape through the skylight to curb connection.
Both skylight types come in two profiles.
- Shingle profile (which are lower)
- Tile profile (which are taller)
The extra height is needed on tile roofs because the tiles themselves are higher off the roof than shingles. If a lower profile is used, the water running off the tops of the tile may rush up under the skylight cap and penetrate the waterproof seal.
